How SKY-SHOT works

One cartridge, five spin-stabilized segments

SKY-SHOT™ is a dual-purpose cartridge for trained military and agency users, effective against both aerial drone threats and personnel. It is backward compatible with existing 5.56mm and .223 weapon systems: load and fire.

  1. 01

    Load

Fits existing 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington weapon systems. Brass case, ~2.259 in / 57.4 mm cartridge length.

  2. 02

    Fire

Each round carries one primary projectile plus four bonus shots, leaving the muzzle at ~2,200 fps (~670.5 m/s).

  3. 03

    Spread

Rifling spins every segment, so all five fly spin-stabilized in a predictable pattern, optimized for ~16 in at 50 yards.

  4. 04

    Hit

The spread gives a higher hit probability than ball ammunition. For drones, engage at 60 yards or closer for the best odds.

FAQ

SKY-SHOT questions

What is SKY-SHOT?

SKY-SHOT™ is a dual-purpose 5.56 NATO / .223 Remington cartridge from Maverick Tactical for trained military and agency users. It is effective against both aerial drone threats and personnel, and it is made in the USA.

Does it work in my existing rifle?

Yes. SKY-SHOT is backward compatible with existing 5.56mm and .223 weapon systems: load and fire. Choose 5.56 NATO or .223 Remington when you order.

How does one round become five shots?

Each round carries one primary projectile plus four bonus shots. Rifling induces spin, so each of the five segments flies spin-stabilized, giving a predictable spread pattern and a higher hit probability than ball ammunition.

What is the pattern and range?

The round is optimized for a pattern of about 16 in at 50 yards. Recommended effective range is up to about 600 ft / 200 yd / 183 m.

How close should I be to engage a drone?

For anti-drone engagements, Maverick Tactical recommends 60 yards or closer for the highest hit probability. The shooter must account for target identification and what lies beyond the target before deployment.

What are the projectile options?

The casing is brass and the projectile is zinc or lead, about 1.736 in long, about .224 in diameter and about 140 grains. Velocity is about 2,200 fps (about 670.5 m/s).

What is the minimum order?

The minimum order is 1,000 rounds. SKY-SHOT is sold in 1,000, 2,500, 5,000 and 10,000-round quantities.

How does it ship and what is the warranty?
